The Power is Given

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. – 2 Peter 1:2-4 NKJV.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13 NKJV.

Nick Harris was taking his own eight-year-old daughter to school when he saw something that every parent fears. What Nick saw was a car backing out of a drive way and right over a six-year-old girl. The girl was trapped underneath the tire of the large Mercury car, but that did not stop Harris from trying to lift the car off of her. Harris is 32-years-old, five-foot-seven weighing 185 pounds, and he does not know how he did it, but he was able to lift the car off of the little girl. Since then Harris has tried to lift other cars, but has been unable to do it again. He says about the rescue of Ashlyn that it was because, “…somehow, adrenaline, hand of God, whatever you want to call it, I don’t know how I did it.” Ashlyn, the little girl who was trapped is going to be okay.

Through Jesus, everything has been given to us; all the power necessary to live life to the ultimate degree is available. Sometimes we see the exercise of the power of God in very obvious ways as with Nick Harris doing the impossible in lifting the car to save the little girl. However, I would submit to you that the power of God is at work in the lives of countless people across this earth every minute of every day. When the world says that you should give up on your marriage, but you pray and trust God to give you strength to continue on, is that not an even greater exercise of God’s power? When you learn you have cancer or some other disease, and instead of giving up you pray asking for strength, and you continue on with life as long as you have breath that surely is a great demonstration of the power of God at work in your life. When you are financially destitute one step from living on the streets, but you continue to trust God and pray for Him to provide no matter what may happen – the power of God is being released in your life with each step forward that you take.

No doubt, there will be challenges ahead for all of us. Whatever shape the challenge may take whether financial, health, relationship, emotional, parenting, educational, addiction – whatever it is; God can give you the power to meet the challenge. The challenges of life can at times be frightening. Remember that the fear does not come from God, because He gives us instead: power, love, and a sound mind. Whatever is ahead, you and the Lord will be able to go through those challenges because, “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness….”

(Everything necessary to live life to the ultimate degree has been given to us through Jesus Christ.)
