The Image of God
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV.
He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. – Colossians 1:13-15 NKJV.
Jesus said this: “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” – John 14:9b NKJV.
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. – Romans 8:29 NKJV.
Thisman dot org is the website about a man whom many people across the world claim to have seen in their dreams. One woman drew a sketch of the man after having seen him in her dreams and gave the sketch to her psychiatrist. Another client saw the sketch and claimed to have seen the same man in his dreams. From there it spread with perhaps thousands of other people claiming to have seen an image of the same person in their dreams. I did look at the website to see the sketch of the man of their dreams, and to me, he appears to be like a variant image of the smiley face with some hair. Maybe they are just having some happy dreams.
Jim Stevens in Jonesborough, Tennessee is seeing an image of a man too, but not in his dreams. Stevens has been seeing what appears to be the classical image of Jesus in the condensation on the window of his Isuzu pickup truck. The image has the long hair and a beard as Jesus is typically pictured, and by November of 2009, the image had been appearing every morning for a couple of weeks. I tried to find an update to see if the image is still appearing, but did not find anything new. I am wondering if Jesus just appears on Isuzu pickup trucks, or if he can appear on Ford and Chevy trucks too?
Of course, no one really knows what Jesus looked like, although there does seem to be a commonality among all the purported early images that exist. There are also a few written descriptions of Jesus, including one by Publius Lentullus, and one by Pontius Pilate, in a letter to Tiberius Caesar.
Although we have not seen Jesus with our physical eyes, we have seen His image. I am not talking about a photo, or a drawing, or a painting, or a carving, or a sculpture or anything of that nature. We have seen the image of Jesus in the lives of those who know Jesus as their Savior. In some believers, the image of Jesus is not as easy to see as in the lives of others. Some believers act more like Jesus would act than other believers do. As Paul says we are “…being transformed into the same image.”
As it has been said many times, you as a Christian may be the only Bible that some will ever read. You could also say that you as a Christian may be the only Jesus that some will ever see. What portrait of Jesus are you painting with your life?
