How Much Life?

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. – John 10:10 NKJV.

Fifty years ago, the technology for drilling oil and gas wells was still primitive compared to today. Most wells were drilled only to the depth of a few thousand feet. With the advance of science there is now the capability of drilling to the depth of 30,000 feet or more. It is now known that below many shallow oil fields are more pools of oil and natural gas. When a well is drilled now there may be several producing zones at different depths. But in order to reach those more productive and richer zones the wells must be drilled to a deeper depth.

In the Christian life there is the possibility of our going deeper and deeper into the living waters of God. Jesus said to the woman at the well in John chapter four that He was the water of life. Ezekiel, in Ezekiel 47:1-12, describes this river of life as does John in Revelation 22:1-2. John sees a river of the water of life flowing from God’s throne. According to Ezekiel, some are ankle deep, some are knee deep, some are waist deep, and some are so immersed in the living waters of God that they are swimming.

There is a sin of shallowness. It occurs when we refuse to expend the time and energy necessary to reach the glorious riches of God. How deep are you? If you want life, abundant life, you must go deeper!
