Hope
Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. – Hebrews 6:17-20 NKJV.
The dictionary tells us that hope is an expectation of something desired. Dante defined it as “waiting with certainty.” It is more than wishing; hope is a confident anticipation of something yet to come. Confidence is trust or reliance upon something or someone. For Christians that something or someone is Jesus Christ.
Our bodies and minds can withstand a great amount of pressure. We can withstand the physical pressure of cold and of heat. We can withstand great amounts of pain. We can also go through times of illness, financial problems, marital problems, unemployment, or even the death of someone close to us. We can, if we don’t lose one very important thing. That thing is hope. Take away our hope and we can withstand very little. Without hope we simply give up.
Sometimes winds of trouble blow our way which attack our hope. The wind of things happening that should never happen attacks our hope. The death of a loved one is an example. The wind of things that should happen that never happen. For some healing never comes. The wind of things that should happen now but happen much later. Moses appears to have wanted to lead his people to freedom 40 years before it occurred. These winds of trouble eat away at our hope.
If you have experienced these winds of trouble or others, then Hebrews six is for you. We are encouraged not to give up because: “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises (Hebrews 6:10-12 NKJV.)”
You can do it! You can continue on in the face of the winds of trouble. Why! Because you have “an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.”
