Stumbling Around
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe… – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4a NKJV.
The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble. – Proverbs 4:19 NKJV.
…We look for light, but there is darkness!
For brightness, but we walk in blackness!
We grope for the wall like the blind,
And we grope as if we had no eyes;
We stumble at noonday as at twilight;
We are as dead men in desolate places. – Isaiah 59:9b-10 NKJV.
We have been doing massive reorganization of all the stuff we have in our garage. Yesterday, I took a load of stuff to the landfill. I’ve cleaned out an old building we have and have been moving some boxes of books out to it today. We had the garage door open for a while and then when we shut the door after a minute or two the light went off. But we were still in the garage, and we had boxes scattered around. While trying reach the light switch, I stumbled over something and I fell really hard on my left side. A lot of pain at first but I think I’m okay. (I felt severe pain after the fall when I tried to move, but after about a minute after Jeanie found the light switch, the pain was gone! I believe that God protected me and healed me!)
This I think is a picture of the lost and the saved too who are trying to live without the guidance of God. They stumble around in the spiritual dark and at times they take a hard fall. They get up and continue to try to live life without the Lord, never thinking that they need Him. Some are blinded by the enemy, but others like the saved have no excuse for trying to live without the Lord’s guidance.
How do you stop stumbling around, or keep yourself from stumbling around in life? First, if you have never prayed to receive Christ Jesus as your Savior, you should do so now. Jesus says in Revelation 3:20, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Simply pray asking Jesus to come into your life, forgive you of your sins. Then, you will have the devil’s blindness removed from you.
After you know Jesus as your Savior. Jesus tells us how to stop stumbling around in life in Matthew 6:33, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Also, as the Psalmist says in Psalm 119:165, Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble.
We must follow the example of Jesus as the apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 2:21, …that you should follow His steps. What is the example of Jesus? In Mark 1:35 we see this: Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. We too should begin our days communing with the Lord in prayer and in His Word.
