Fear God!
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…. – Proverbs 1:7 NKJV.
There are some things you need to avoid that can be fatal:
First, do not bite your tongue! Allan Pinkerton, founder of the Pinkerton detective agency accidentally bit his tongue, and it became infected which led to his death on July 1, 1884.
Second, we have always been told that carrots are good for us, but apparently if we drink too much carrot juice it can kill us. It happened to a man in England, Basil Brown, a health food addict who became addicted to carrot juice.
Third, soup is known for its healing and comforting qualities, but you should be aware that it is dangerous to inject soup directly into your bloodstream. Ilda Maciel in Brazil’s while in the hospital had an IV and a feeding tube and her nurse accidentally put the soup into the IV instead of the feeding tube and it killed IIda.
Fourth, too much dancing can kill you! The truth of this was seen in 16th century France. Frau Troffea began dancing in the street in July and hundreds of people joined in. Some never stopped dancing and by August people were dropping dead from exhaustion, heart attack and strokes.
Fifth, it is possible, at least it was in the past, to die at your own funeral. However, in 2011 in Russia, Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov woke up to be carried to her own grave. When she realized what was happening, she had a heart attack and really did die. So, I guess the moral of the story is that if you can avoid going to your own funeral, Don’t go! There are a lot of dangerous things and situations that we should avoid in life. But how do we know?
The most important thing that we can do to have wisdom in life is to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. If only, I had been in church regularly with my parents when I was growing up. If only during that time I had prayed to receive Jesus as my Savior, it would have made an incredible difference in the things that I said and did. If I had known Jesus as my Savior in Junior High and High School, it is likely that I would have already heard God’s call to preach His Word. It is possible that I would have been preaching 20 years earlier and would have already met my future wife while in High School.
Everything changed in my life when I began to pray and seek God’s will. When I began to pray faithfully every day the first thing that I prayed for was protection. I had had three vehicle accidents in a year and knew I needed help. At the same time, I began praying for God’s will to be done in my life. The result has been that God has protected me, and I have had very few accidents since that time. The accidents that I have had were minor in nature. The most serious was hitting a deer. Then there was the time I backed into a signpost at a gas station and at Wal-Mart a man in a pickup backed into me. I know that it is God that has protected me and my family countless times through the years.
We are told this in 1 John 5:14-15: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. If we seek God’s will in everything and we have reverence (fear) toward Him the Holy Spirit help guide us away from those things that are not good for us. The Spirit will also guide us then toward what is holy and good.
