Other Plans

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV.

For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11 The Amplified Bible.

On July 13, 2024, we had just arrived home from a vacation and turned on the TV in time to see the attempted assassination of now President Trump. Trump believes that God saved him from death that day. The gunman, no doubt demonically led, had meticulously planned the attack. He made his plan, but God had other plans.

In the verse before Jeremiah 29:11 in verse 10 God says through Jeremiah: “For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place.” The exiles and their families that had been carried away from Jerusalem were oppressed by the prophecies of false prophets saying they were there in Babylon to stay. But God had other plans for His people.

The other plans that God has for the United States through the presidency of Donald J. Trump are only beginning to be seen.

Often in my own life and likely in your life too our plans are frustrated because God has other plans. At one time my plan was to play the guitar and be a songwriter. God had other plans. I no longer write songs but now I write devotionals. At one time I thought that my oilfield business would be a lifetime operation that I would pass on to my son. But God had other plans for me and my son. Now we are both pastors preaching God’s Word.

Before I was married, I dated some girls that at the time I was attracted too. But God had other plans, and looking back I can see that God saved me from disaster. God instead blessed me with a wonderful wife and through her because of her testimony I became a believer, and through her I have an amazing family.

When God spoke to me and said that Jeanie would be “a good wife” He knew exactly what I needed and exactly what she needed. I do thank God and praise God often for the amazing work He has done in our lives.

Now, I can see that God’s other plans were the very best plans! Indeed, God had plans for me for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give me a future and a hope.

What other plans does God have for your life? Let us pray that God will fulfill His plan, His will, His purposes in our lives!
