The Jesus Nut

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. – John 14:5-6 NKJV.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. – John 10:10b NKJV.

Jesus is “the Prince of Life.” – Acts 3:15 NKJV.

Last Thursday a helicopter on a sightseeing tour fell out of the sky plunging into the Hudson River. The video of the crash shows the helicopter falling like a rock with the rotors gone. It must have been a horrific few moments as the helicopter fell toward the water.

One family of five and the pilot were killed. The family was from Spain. Agustin Escobar was the CEO of Siemens, a technology-related company. According to news reports the emergency response was immediate and three of those involved were still clinging to life and taken to a hospital where they passed away. With the obvious lack of the main rotor and the rear rotor it appears that the main rotor retaining nut failed from improper installation or poor maintenance. This retaining nut is sometimes called the Jesus Nut as in if it fails it is a catastrophic failure then all you can do is to pray to Jesus for help. There is also a lock pin that secures the main rotor retaining nut and it is sometimes called the Jesus Pin because failure of the pin can result in failure of the nut.

The Jesus Nut and Pin are what keeps the helicopter in the air and without it there will be a crash. Spiritually you could say that Jesus is our Jesus Nut in that Jesus is what holds life together. As John 14:6 says Jesus is “the life.”

So, we see that the more of Jesus you have the more life you will have. He came to give you life and life more abundantly. When you have Jesus everything in your life tends to come together. The farther you are from Jesus the more things in your life tend to come apart. If you have never received Jesus as your Savior, it is like the Jesus Nut and Pin on a helicopter were never installed. The result of that will at some point be disaster.

Therefore, to have more life we need more of Jesus. How do we do that? Well, there is a whole book about it called the Bible. In the Bible in Matthew 4:4 Jesus says, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Also, in Luke 18:1 Jesus “spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.” One more major component of enabling Jesus to hold us together is church. As we are told in Hebrews 10:24-25: And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

So, if you want life, real life, abundant life, it would be a wise thing to make sure you have the Jesus Nut and that it is properly installed and maintained.
