Do You Have It?

Certainty in the midst of uncertainty. We want to have it. What is it? Assurance of Salvation. It’s about knowing that God loves us, knowing that our sins are forgiven, knowing that we have eternal life in him.

This world is full of uncertainties; we have no idea what the future holds for us —

  • In fact, one thing we should have learned from 9/11,
  • And, we should have learned from the shock of the pandemic of 2020
  • And, most recently we should have learned from the longest shutdown of government in American history.

The One Thing we should have learned If we didn’t know it already, is that our entire world can change in an instant.

Right now, 24% of our naval forces are now in the Caribbean and I doubt it is just a show of force although it certainly is a show of force. In an uncertain world one thing we ought to have nailed down without any doubt is our eternal relationship with almighty God.

First things first, so how can you have a relationship with God?

Faith in Jesus is not some complicated formula, in fact, it is so simple that even a child can understand. Most people have heard that great Bible verse John 3:16 where we are told: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Just before that great verse John 3:16 that we know so well the Bible says in verses 14 and 15, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

What Jesus is referring to is in the period from when Moses led the people out of bondage in Egypt and prior to their arrival in the Promised Land. It was a difficult time with very little food and very little water.  And the people began to grumble and complain against God and about Moses. As a result, God sent poisonous snakes into their camp, and many people were dying as a result.

The people came to Moses and confessed that they had sinned against God. Moses prayed for the people and God said to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole.  The Bible says, “so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.”

What does that have to do with Jesus and with us? The spiritual fact is that we have all been bitten by that old serpent of sin. Romans 3:23: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

In other words, we have all been snake bit and if we don’t want to die eternally then we need to look to Jesus for our salvation from the poison of sin. The Bible says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

The Bible says in John 1:12, “But to as many as received Him (Talking about Jesus.), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe on His name.”

And Jesus says in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if anyone hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Receiving Jesus as your Savior is not some complicated formula.

  • It is the looking to Jesus for help for that snake bite of sin that you’ve got.
  • It is the calling upon Jesus for help.
  • It is the receiving of Him as your Savior.
  • It is opening up the door of your heart and letting Him come in.

And it’s all a matter of the heart. If you mean business with God, He will save you and give you eternal life. When does that eternal life begin? It begins at the moment you believe upon Jesus unto salvation and that is what John 3:16 says.

Do you know that you have been saved possessing eternal life by your relationship with Jesus Christ? The Bible says that you can know. 1 John 5:13: 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

If you are not sure of your relationship with the Lord Jesus but want to be – Here is a prayer that you can pray for salvation:

“Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day. Please forgive me for the sins, the bad things I have done, I want to change and be like You. Please help me to change, be my Lord and my Master and my Savior. In your Name, Lord Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart and save me. Amen.”

Please remember that words alone will not save you. Only if you truly mean it in your heart will you be saved.
