The Insanity of Sin

I will return again to My place
Till they acknowledge their offense.
Then they will seek My face;
In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me. – Hosea 5:15 NKJV.

God says He is going to withdraw His presence from the people of Israel until they repent. There was a state of lawlessness among the people. You could call it spiritual insanity. They knew very well what they should and should not do but they were not obedient to God.

Spiritual insanity abounds on planet earth as we now near the end of the year 2022 in the twenty-first century. Think about it. Is it rational to ignore the will of Almighty God? Is it rational to insult the Creator of the Universe every time you have a chance? Drag shows in schools, in churches, obscene parades, every kind of evil running rampant across the United States and really across the entire world. Spiritual insanity abounds on planet earth, and it seems to be in every human heart including mine to some degree.

To engage in the spiritual insanity means for those who are without salvation that there will come a time of judgment. We are told in Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” For those who have salvation to engage in the spiritual insanity of sin means there will be broken fellowship, lost power, discipline and we will someday stand at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). For a nation it means that God may very well withdraw His protection.

Hosea gives us the way to return to sanity in Hosea 6:1-3: Come, and let us return to the Lord;
For He has torn, but He will heal us;
He has stricken, but He will bind us up.
After two days He will revive us;
On the third day He will raise us up,
That we may live in His sight.
Let us know,
Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.
His going forth is established as the morning;
He will come to us like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.

To end the insanity, we must “… return to the Lord.”
