God’s Amnesia

He will again have compassion on us,
And will subdue our iniquities.

You will cast all our sins
Into the depths of the sea. – Micah 7:19 NKJV.

“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool. – Isaiah 1:18 NKJV.

As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us. – Psalm 103:12 NKJV.

Have you had the measles? Most of us who are older had the measles when we were children. Thankfully, 25 years ago the Vaccines for Children program was initiated which included the MMR Measles Mumps and Rubella vaccine which is 97% effective at preventing measles after two doses. However, measles is making a comeback in the United States with 839 cases last year.

Measles is a very dangerous illness for a little known reason. It is called immune amnesia. The American Society for Microbiology states in an article: Measles virus is especially dangerous because it has the ability to destroy what’s been earned: immune memory from previous infections. It then takes two to three years for the immune system to recover and begin making memories of new infections as it did prior to the measles.

What measles does for your physical body wiping out memory of the previous attacks via infections is in a way what God can do for your spiritual being. Jesus says in Revelation 3:20: Behold,  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,  I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. When you open up the door of your heart through prayer inviting Jesus into your life asking forgiveness of your sins – when you do that, God develops amnesia. God develops amnesia of your past sins and your future sins.

When God forgives you of your sins, He puts those sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12) casting them into His sea of forgetfulness (Micah 7:19) and remembers them no more (Hebrews 8:12). God’s amnesia about your sins begins when you are birthed into the kingdom of God. At the same time, you are clothed in a robe of righteousness: Isaiah 61:10, “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

After God’s amnesia occurs, when the Father looks at you, He no longer sees the sinner that you were. Why? Because you are now clothed in the righteousness of His Son.

We have so very much as children of God to be thankful about!
